Announcement of the Food Safety AoE Team Consumer Education $750 Mini-Grant Recipient

Leatta Byrd and Stephanie Miller of MSUE Kalamazoo County submitted the winning proposal for the Consumer Education $750 mini-grant. Leatta and Stephanie will be conducting a "Hand washing for Health" program this summer in conjunction with K-PEP, Michigan Works, Ministry with Community, Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies and Women Infants and Children (WIC). The purpose of their activity is to increase the community's awareness of harmful bacteria that can be transferred via unwashed hands, to educate the community about proper hand washing techniques and to inform the community of when they should wash their hands. It is estimated that the program will have a total of 500 participants. Leatta and Stephanie will complete their project by September 30, 2001 and will provide a report on their activities by October 1, 2001.
