Healthy Weight: Nutrition and Physical Activity

Safe Routes to School is a national movement to make it safe, convenient and fun for children to bicycle and walk to school as an easy way to get regular physical activity.

  • Team Nutrition (Michigan and National)

    The goal of USDA’s Team Nutrition is to improve children’s lifelong eating and physical activity habits by using the principles of the Dietary Guideline for Americans and the Food Guide Pyramid. Both the Michigan and National Team Nutrition Web sites have extensive resource sections for school foodservice staff members, teachers, parents and students.   • TV-Turnoff Network

    Created in 1995 to encourage adults and children to reduce television watching to promote richer, healthier, and more connected lives.

  • VERB Campaign

    Practical ideas for getting kids to be physically active in the home, school, and community: Web site list of programs and ideas to help children and youth get physically fit and stay physically active. Sponsored by VERB and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • Your Child's Weight: Help Your Child With Successful Weight Management

    Brochure developed by the ARS/UDSA Children's Nutrition Research Center, operated by the Baylor College of Medicine. The brochure outlines common causes for why children are overweight, and offers suggestions on how to deal with the weight problem as a family. It presents strategies for success and provides a list of additional resources for families to utilize. Available in English and Spanish.
