Clueless in the Mall

Clueless in the Mall is a comprehensive, interactive site geared toward educating young teenagers about the importance of eating enough calcium to avoid osteoporosis later in life. Clueless is designed as a virtual scavenger hunt and visitors are asked to answer a series of clues leading to different areas in the "Mall" where they can learn more about calcium. At the end of the "hunt," visitors can print up a certificate documenting their calcium know-how. Clueless in the Mall packs a lot into one site. It includes a list of good sources of calcium from all the food groups with serving sizes, an explanation of how to read labels for calcium content, nutritious recipe ideas, menus that include calcium-rich foods and suggestions for optional sources of calcium for those who are lactose-intolerant or avoid dairy products.

Food Safety Lessons

The food safety lessons were developed by the Food Safety Project at Iowa State University Extension to provide consumers and future consumers with the tools they need to help minimize their risk from harmful pathogens in the food supply. They discuss the relationship between germs and foodborne illness, critical control points--from purchasing through handling leftovers--when foods may become contaminated, and the importance of hand washing and personal cleanliness.  The colorful graphics make them more fun than the average educational lessons.

Michigan Milk Cycle

Michigan's milk cycle site allows viewers to take a step-by-step adventure through the cycle of milk - from the cow to the counter.  This site includes many vivid pictures of this process.
